Mario Kart has been around the track a few times. Nintendo has introduced versions of the game with each version of their own consoles. The franchise is as strong as ever and has always performed extremely well in the market. However, too much of a good thing could be a negative, which is why Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime has shared that Nintendo will not launch another Mario Kart title on either the Wii U or the portable Nintendo 3DS.
Fils-Aime said that there is “a core difference in how we approach game development versus what tends to happen in the industry.” He is referring to that yearly copy of Madden, FIFA or Call of Duty. Many games release regularly are always around.
When it comes to Mario Kart, it will be just one title per platform. The idea here is to come up with a game that is so compelling, it continues to get played throughout the lifespan of the console itself, selling many million copies. There are pros and cons to every situation of course and at least Nintendo is focused on quality here. Still, it would be nice to get more Mario games. We love Mario.
