With the release of Super Mario run, we have been wondering what Nintendo’s strategy for the mobile market is and now Nintendo has finally confirmed its smartphone strategy. It has announced that it will release two to three mobile titles every year.
Right now everyone is focused on the imminent launch of Nintendo’s new console, but company president Tatsumi Kimishima is looking ahead and has revealed that this smartphone release schedule will be taking effect this year.
Fire Emblem Heroes is launching on both iOS and Android tomorrow and the still untitled Animal Crossing is delayed until 2018, so it has yet to reveal which other game will get the mobile treatment in 2017. At least we now know that they have a strategy.
This announcement comes a day after Nintendo announced that it was cutting its full-year operating profit forecast by a third. Since Super Mario Run has received over 79 million downloads and the Android version has yet to launch, this news should help encourage investors after the disappointing new financial forecast. Nintendo is only just beginning in the smartphone market and they have many hot IPs, so once they get cracking I’m sure everyone will be happy. Gamers and investors alike.
