You likely have heard that Nintendo decided to start charging gamers for access to its online gaming services, where users would need to pay a fee to be able to play with other gamers online. Since Nintendo did not charge gamers in the past, many were curious as to how players would react to this news.
Well, it seems that players are pretty okay with it. According to the latest figures, Nintendo Switch Online has 9.8 million subscribers now. That number includes players who took part in the free trial and also family members, so we don’t know how many individual subscriptions there are, but it is an impressive figure anyway. Remember that the service only launched last year.
The Nintendo Switch is said to have sold close to 35 million units and has surpassed the N64 at this point in lifetime sales. So about a third of Switch owners are actually paying for the service. The question is, will those numbers grow or not?
The Nintendo Switch only costs you $20 for an annual subscription, So the price isn’t bad at all. So I wouldn’t be surprised if more than a third will buy into the annual subscription after some time goes by.
