Do you want to read comics on your game console? InkyPen wants to help with that. It’s launching a comic subscription on December 17th that’s arriving first for the Nintendo Switch. It will offer “thousands” of indie comics and webcomics. It will add manga at some point too. It will cost a $8 flat rate (€8 in Europe).
The initial service is focused on English readers, but “almost all” of the catalog is available worldwide. InkyPen will support other platforms in the future as well, although it didn’t name which ones.
It isn’t a service that aims to compete with the likes of Comixology in terms of scale, but that’s okay since it’s not currently aiming at people who want mainstream material. The Switch debut may help it stand out from the pack too. A 6.2-inch screen might not be as ideal for reading, but InkyPen could appeal to kids who don’t have another mobile device. Who knows? Maybe there are people who want to read a few indie comics in between video game sessions. We will see.
It will be interesting to see how people like this idea. Comics on a console is an interesting idea. Many players read them after all.
