Nintendo’s latest console may actually have a NES emulator. Hackers found the system wrapped around an existing game hidden inside the Switch. The title is called “FLOG,” and it looks just like Golf (the 1984 sports game for the NES). That sure is a blast from the past.
This is our first look at of the NES emulator, despite rumors of its existence from months ago. It looks like it has support for the Switch’s Joy-Con motion controls too.
Hacker “yellowS8” says that the feature has been inside the system since version 1.0 of its firmware. Just how you can access the app is a mystery for now. Yellows8 claims it had to be run “unofficially” for the screenshots to be taken. You might remember that Nintendo said that a Virtual Console is coming to the Switch. This emulator could be related to it. However, the company has yet to confirm if it will work with its Joy-Con controllers. No previous NES ROMs have used motion controls, even during the Wii U era, so this would be a first.
Until we get some official word from Nintendo, take it with a grain of salt for now. Hopefully we will hear more soon.
