Nintendo’s Wii U may be struggling, but sales of 3DS games are still going strong. According to a recent press release, Nintendo sold more than 16 million physical and digital 3DS games last year, which is a 45% increase in year-over-year sales. At least something is selling for them.
The 3DS family of consoles(the 3DS, 3DS XL and 2DS) has also surpassed more than 11.5 million sales in the U.S. That’s probably because there were many great games released in 2013 for the portable, including new Pokemon games and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. Yoshi’s New Island showed up as well.
I see this as proof that if the Wii U had good games, gamers would buy them up. You put out good games and gamers will buy them. The question is, when will Nintendo finally admit defeat with the Wii U? And what steps will they take to try to recoup their losses? And with this news regarding the 3DS game sales, maybe they should seriously think about just concentrating on the portable/mobile market. They seem to be doing just fine there. Maybe that is what we will see in 2014.
