After announcing its availability last week, Nintendo’s NES Classic sold out very fast and so the company is promising that more units are on the way. In Japan the console is selling like crazy as well.
According to a report from Famitsu, the company has managed to sell over 260,000 units of the Mini-Famicom. It seems like these retro Nintendo consoles are as popular as ever. Everyone wants one of these consoles right now.
Japan did not get the NES Classic, but instead got the Mini-Famicom which is basically the equivalent, except that it appears to be exclusive to the Japanese market. So the 260,000 units sold are just for the Mini-Famicom alone, which is pretty impressive. Right now we don’t know the official sales figures of either the NES Classic or the Mini-Famicom, so we only have the 260,000 at the moment. Classic mini console and classic games. What’s not to love? Everyone wants to relive the good old days and feel nostalgic about these games.
There are currently no plans to release other similar consoles in the future, but these are such a hit, I bet they do at some point. A mini N64b would sell just as well I bet.
