Nintendo’s results for Q1 of 2012 show growth in profit for the company. Gross profit was 24.9 billion yen. That’s over double last year’s Q1. Operating income is negative, however is reduced since last quarter’s statement, which is probably due to very good 3DS sales.
These results tie in with the launch of the 3DS XL and Nintendo’s first downloadable titles for the 3DS. Sales of the handheld reached 1.86 million units during the last quarter. On the other side of the coin, sales of the Wii have trailed off, with only 710,000 units sold in Q1.
That’s down from 1.56 million in the same period last year. The press release also says that Nintendo still plans to launch the Wii successor by the end of this year. The should help the years figures.
