Nintendo is going through some rough times, but don’t expect a cheaper Wii U console. That is not going to happen. Maybe they can release better games and pull some rabbits out of their Mario hat. They can also look to past success and see what worked.
Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has also said that Nintendo could work on bringing their DS library to the Wii U via the Virtual Console. This certainly would help repair their leaky boat. It would be kind of like having a controller with a second screen, so the Wii U may be the ideal platform for this.
They will still have a lot of work to do in order to get ahead, but this seems like a ste in the right direction. I wonder if this was a backup plan all along. Regardless, it can only help. The company is also looking into health related gaming peripherals, so it will be interesting to see what happens there as well. At least they are taking steps to get out of their funk. We will see if it is enough. Or too little, too late.
