Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi has confirmed that Polyphony Digital is working on the next game in the Gran Turismo series. Even though he wasn’t too impressed with the first generation PlayStation VR, he may give the technology a chance for this new title, going so far as to hint at the possibility that the new Gran Turismo could have support for the PlayStation VR.
Yamauchi confirmed that a new Gran Turismo title is in fact in development. We don’t have any other details just yet, but we can assume that the title is going to arrive on the next-generation PlayStation console that is due in 2020. The title will get improved performance and graphics, and maybe even VR support.
“I don’t think that there’s anything else that requires that much processing power. I really like VR; I’m one to believe in the possibilities of it, and it’s very suited for a driving game,” he said, so maybe VR support is being looked into for the new Gran Turismo.
Gran Turismo Sport actually had very basic PSVR integration and fans of the series would obviously prefer it to have a more substantial virtual reality bent. Maybe the performance improvements in the next console will be just the thing.
