Netflix has opened up its “Super HD” video streams to all of its subscribers. The loosening of restrictions comes after a period of monitoring by the company. Now they are apparently satisfied and want everyone to have good quality.
Netflix Super HD video streams at 1080p resolution, to devices like the Apple TV third generation, PlayStation 3, some Roku devices and the Wii U. Your mileage may vary because Netflix’s “adaptive streaming” techniques are still in play. So it depends on network condition.
There is no extra charge or the feature. Of course, not all content is available in Super HD, but Netflix says that “We continue to encourage ISPs to adopt Netflix Open Connect, our highly optimized video content delivery network. Open Connect is available at no cost to ISPs and is designed to deliver the best possible Netflix experience by storing the TV shows and movies Netflix members want to watch as close to them as possible.” Good move Netflix. It is about time.
