Netflix may make a choose-your-own-adventure Black Mirror

Netflix is never content with just being a leader in entertainment. They are always pushing the envelope. According to Bloomberg, the streaming service is now exploring choose-your-own-ending style interactive content. Apparently, multiple projects are in development, but the first adult programming that viewers will see is an episode of Black Mirror.

Viewers can choose the ending to an episode, which seems very appropriate for a series that is all about the effects and implications of technology. The company has been exploring this tech for some time now and it may be ready to use it soon.

In fact, Netflix does offer choose-your-own-adventure storytelling for kids’ programming already. A series called Puss in Book allows kids to choose the villain for the episode and then go back after they’ve watched it and pick the other option. This means that content is more rewatchable. These types of narratives can have complicated deals and productions though because studios are still trying to figure out the pay scale for writers due to longer scripts for one thing. Using this feature in a high-profile show like Black Mirror shows that they have high hopes for this as a storytelling option.

Netflix seems like a good avenue through which to explore this kind of TV. Netflix has never been afraid to take risks. The company has supposedly already signed a deal for another adult live-action choose-your-adventure type project.
