There are so many news platforms right now that you could consider Netflix a place to get away from all of that. After all, the video streaming platform offers a ton of TV shows, comedies, action movies, horror, documentaries, and so on, but there are no news shows.
However according to a report from MarketWatch, it seems like Netflix could be interested in creating a news show, but not a typical news show like you might expect from the BBC, Fox, and CNN. Netflix’s approach will be similar to CBS’s “60 Minutes” or ABC’s “20/20” show.
This was revealed by a TV executive who worked with Netflix on a documentary series. “Netflix has spotted a hole in the market for a current affairs TV show encompassing both sides of the political divide and are seeking to fill it.”
Netflix has confirmed nothing yet. This does seem to be in line with what the platform has been doing recently. Netflix has signed comedian talk show hosts like David Letterman, Joel McHale, Hasan Minhaj, Michelle Wolf, and Norm MacDonald for shows that are meant to satirize the news. So you can see them creating a “60 Minutes” like show. That’s all we know at the moment.
