House of Cards is one of the most popular original shows that Netflix has in its lineup. The political drama has been popular since the first season was released years ago. In fact, Netflix is currently filming the sixth season which will be released in 2018 and that’s going to be the end of this show.
Netflix has now confirmed that the next season of House of Cards will be its last season.
The show is based on the 1990 BBC hit series that was based on a novel by Michael Dobbs. Netflix’s decision to cancel one of its most popular original shows comes hot on the heels of allegations of sexual assault against Kevin Spacey. So it appears that Netflix is protecting themselves from bad press.
Netflix said that it’s “deeply troubled” by the allegations against Spacey and has confirmed that it won’t be developing the seventh season after all. Production on the sixth season continues for now and it will be released in 2018. Apparently Netflix’s upcoming film Gore about the author Gore Vidal might be cancelled too. That one also stars Kevin Spacey. Netflix hasn’t officially confirmed or denied this one yet, but it would not be surprising at all.
