In the UK today Natwest, RBS and Visa have taken the wraps off a new payment product called TouchPay. Which has been designed to provide iPhone 4 and 4S users with a contactless payments service using, near field communications (NFC).
The TouchPay service requires iPhone users to use a new NFC cover, which has been specifically designed for use with the new TouchPay service unveiled today.
Ben Green, Head of Mobile at RBS, explains that the new TouchPay NFC technology complements the bank’s existing payment services: “Delivered alongside our updated mobile apps, the TouchPay service means that our customers need only carry their smartphone with them to make payments and manage their finances wherever they are.”
Once your iPhone 4 and 4S has been placed in the NFC cover and the companion application downloaded, users are then able to make payments of up to £20, at stores that are equipped with NFC payment technology.
NFC enabled business currently include: Caffè Nero, Burger King, Krispy Kreme, Crussh, Boots, Spar, Timpson, Superdrug, Slug and Lettuce, The Co-operative Food and WH Smith travel.
