While Netflix used to be shy about releasing viewing statistics, over the last year or so the company has become more open about their viewing numbers. Its latest reveal confirms that many people like Adam Sandler movies. His latest star-studded movie, Murder Mystery, has earned the biggest opening weekend ever for a Netflix movie, with 30,869,863 unique accounts watching it in the first three days alone.
Netflix counts a view as someone watching more than 70 percent of a particular title. 13,374,914 of these accounts were in the US and Canada, with the other 17 million were spread worldwide. In 2017 Netflix explained viewers had already streamed over half a billion hours of Adam Sandler, so it was a very wise thing to sign that four-picture deal. It looks like it is paying off nicely.
Today we now know more about Netflix viewers’ habits than ever before, probably because there’s more streaming competition now. Its heist movie Triple Frontier scored a 52 million account opening weekend, and we know that Bird Box racked up 45 million in one week last year. In the UK it even publishes Top Ten lists now. We can likely look forward to the company being even more open in the near future.
