There has been a lot of talk about the Moto X and the hardware inside. Aside from the specs, we want to know, how much does it cost to build? Well, the Moto X comes in just under the Samsung Galaxy S4 as far as cost to build.
A report by IHS says that the Moto X costs about $221 to build. If you are keeping score, that is $16 less than what the cost was estimated for building the Samsung Galaxy S4 in May. IHS estimates the Moto X’s X8 SoC to cost about $32 to $33, which makes the SoC more expensive than the Samsung Exynos Octa which was estimated to cost $28 in May.
Motorola did save a bit by going with a 720p display, which costs $62.50, while Samsung paid $75 for the 1080p S4 display. Then there is the actual assembly of the device, which is estimated to cost about $12 per unit. So there you have it.
