2K Games has announced a new studio, Cloud Chamber, which will take the lead on a new Bioshock title. Cloud Chamber has offices in California and Montreal, and will be headed up by 2K veteran Kelley Gilmore, who you might know from Civilization and XCOM.
Bioshock veterans Hoagy de le Plante, Scott Sinclair and Jonathan Pelling are also involved. But interestingly, original creator Ken Levine is not involved.
In an interview with GamesRadar, Gilmore talked about Bioshock’s unique environments like the underwater city of Rapture and the floating city of Columbia and Rapture and how they are “incredibly important to the gameplay experience.” She also said that there are plenty of “creative directions to explore,”.
The announcement fits with rumors that have swirled around since last year, claiming that work on this game began at the end of Mafia III’s development.
2K’s announcement says that the title will be in development for “the next several years,” and so we can expect this to drop long after the next-generation of consoles have launched. This is great news for fans of the franchise, who have been waiting for a long time. It will be interesting to see where this series goes next.
