It’s an old strategy. If you are competing against another company’s device, you compare the specs to wow the audience. Sony is doing this with its PS4 by claiming that it will have superior graphics.
But it looks like Microsoft is not impressed by Sony’s boasts. Of course, what would you expect them to say? Xbox product planning boss, Albert Penello calls Sony’s numbers “meaningless”.
Penello was quoted as saying, “The problem is that Sony decided to go out and publish a bunch of numbers, which are in some ways meaningless because this isn’t like 1990, when it was 16-bit versus 32-bit. […] I feel like our games and experiences are going to be every bit as good, if not better, technically – on top of all the magic we’re going to add with the instant switching and the power of the cloud.”
He may have a point, but even so, better is still better. We want the best experience we can have, so most people are going to choose the console with the best specs, not the one that is behind with good intentions.
