McDonald’s has launched a new voice experience for Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, but it’s not for customers. It goes by the name Apply Thru, and the company says it’s the world’s first voice-initiated application process. Those looking for jobs just need to say “Alexa/OK Google, help me get a job at McDonald’s” or “Talk to McDonald’s Apply Thru.”
It is the modern way to start the job app process, but you still need to finish it through more traditional ways. Alexa or Assistant will ask for your name, location and job area of interest, as well as other information. You’ll get a text afterward with a URL to visit to continue the application.
The old way of hiring is gone for now. McDonald’s seems to be promoting the Alexa skill more than Google. “We must continue to innovate and think of creative, and in this case, groundbreaking ways to meet potential job seekers on devices they are already using, like Alexa. Alexa has many of the qualities we look for on our teams — friendly, responsive and fun,” said McDonald’s Executive Vice President & Chief People Officer David Fairhurst. “I am looking forward to having our application process simplified with Alexa,” he added.
Apply Thru is now available in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain and the UK. The company will roll it out to other countries soon.
