Nintendo has some good news today. It looks like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch console has become the fastest-selling Mario Kart game in the history of the franchise. That is really saying something since this franchise has always been popular.
The previous record for the highest first-day sales in the franchise was held by Mario Kart Wii. That sold more than 433,900 copies on launch day back in 2008. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sold more copies than that when it was released on April 28th.
The company has confirmed that it sold more than 459,000 digital and physical copies of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for Nintendo Switch combined on the game’s April 28th launch day. That is an attach rate of 45 percent, which means that one in two Nintendo Switch owners in the United States picked up a copy of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the very first day. Nintendo has so far sold more than 2.7 million Nintendo Switch consoles across the globe.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has also received more perfect review scores than any other Mario Kart game before it. It has a current Metacritic score of 93 and is the highest-rated game in the series in 15 years. That’s quite an achievement. Good job Nintendo.
