Carpooling is a great way to help the environment and maybe even make some new friends. If multiple people are going the same way, it makes sense to put them in one car instead of individual cars. It also says everyone money, which we all love.
Lyft has announced today that it’s expanding the Lyft Line carpooling feature to six additional cities in the United States.
Lyft Line matches drivers with one or more passengers so that passengers have pay a lower fare. Right now, the service is available in Austin, Boston, DC, New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Chicago and Atlanta. Beginning next week it will be available to users in San Diego, Philadelphia, Denver, San Jose, Seattle and Newark. This will be most convenient to people in these cities.
Lyft Line currently accounts for 40 percent of the rides that Lyft picks up in the cities where Lyft Line is available. In case you were wondering, Lyft isn’t the only company to have a carpooling feature. Uber launched its Pool feature back in 2014 and UberPool is now available in 15 cities around the world. The idea is simple and effective. You put more people in one car to reduce fares, emissions and traffic jams. It works pretty well and people like it.
