Video games and high-end fashion are about to collide. Fashion houses are seeing a new market to tap as Louis Vuitton will be dipping their toes in the competitive gaming world.
No, the company will not be creating a video game of their own, nor are they sponsoring a team, but it seems that in a collaboration with Riot Games’ League of Legends, they will be creating a series of Prestige Skins for characters in the game. Designed by Nicolas Ghesquière, LV’s Artistic Director of Women’s Collections, these Prestige Skins will be available for champions Qiyana and Senna.
This is the first time that a fashion house like Louis Vuitton will create custom skins for games played in eSports. It is an interesting marketing approach and if successful, we wouldn’t be surprised if more companies start to do this as well. Microtransactions are a very popular way to generate revenue, especially with cosmetic items where gamers do not seem to have a problem paying real money for them.
Aside from these custom skins, the winner of the League of Legends World Championship Finals in Paris will also be given a custom Louis Vuitton trunk designed to house the winner’s trophy. Cool.
