Not too long ago, a rumor from Russian outskirts mentioned that Google will discontinue the Nexus family in 2015, which is not a very pleasant news to hear if its true. Also, Google might launch a couple of Nexus products this year before they discontinue the product line up.
Recently, Eldar Murtazin, a Russian journalist who tweeted about the end of Nexus products, further mentions that Lenovo will launch the last Nexus product later this year, which will be focused on US market.
The Chinese maker recently acquired Motorola for $2.91 billion, and if you think about it from that point of view, there’s a possibility of Lenovo launching a Nexus device that targets the US market. It could either launch under the Lenovo brand, or maybe Motorola whose acquisition will complete in the coming months after getting approval from the regulatory authorities in the US and China.
Before you believe in this, let me remind you that Eldar Murtazin has a hit-and-miss track record when it comes to leaked information. He did make some accurate predictions in the past, but I think it’s better to wait for an official word from Google or Lenovo. In the meantime, take this rumor with a grain of salt.
At the moment, there’s no solid proof about the discontinuation of the Nexus line up or who’ll manufacture the last Nexus device. We’ll update you once we have more information about this.
