By now you’ve probably heard that Target in Australia has decided to remove Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V from their stores due to the depiction of violence against women in the game. Luckily for folks in Australia, there are plenty of other retailers where you can get your game from, however Kmart will no longer be one of them.
Kmart has recently confirmed that they will also be removing the game from their stores. In a statement released to Kotaku Kmart says, “Following a significant review of all content in Grand Theft Auto Games Kmart has taken the decision to remove this product immediately. Kmart apologizes for not being closer to the content of this game.”
Kmart and Target are owned by the same retail group in Australia, Wesfarmers, so this is probably just an attempt to cover their backside. Luckily there are many other options for you to buy the game. I wish retailers would not be so quick to fear a backlash. There are a million things that they sell, which people could take issue with for one reason or another. Anyway, they are probably losing a lot of faithful gamer customers so they only hurt themselves.
