You might say that the biopic Jobs is a huge fail, having opened this weekend on 2381 screens. It brought in an estimated $6.7 million. That is a number that just plain hurts. The movie’s distributor, Open Road Films, was hoping to sell $8 million to $9 million in tickets for the opening weekend.
I guess it didn’t help that Steve Wozniak criticized the truthfulness of the story. Obviously those numbers say that even Apple fans stayed away from the movie. The movie stars Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs and Josh Gad as the Woz. Right now Jobs has garnered an aggregate score of just 25% on Rotten Tomatoes.
At least the movie only cost $12 million to make, so they could still turn a profit. This has to be very disappointing for everyone involved.
