We’ve seen many instances of a smartphone’s battery bursting or catching fire. Sometimes it happens with newer devices. It isn’t just the old stuff. Last year several Galaxy S4 units either “exploded” or caught fire. Now the latest incident is the iPhone 3GS seen above.
The phone belongs to a writer at the Letem Svetem Applem website. The picture says it all, showing the iPhone 3GS battery ballooning right up to the verge of bursting, but thankfully that never happened. It is only chance that stopped someone from being harmed.
The writer has had this particular iPhone 3GS since 2009 and says that it has worked great without any issues. Apparently this happened all on its own. The battery almost doubled in size, looking very much like a balloon instead of an iPhone battery. Apple’s European office has reached out to the writer, so we can assume that they will investigate. This isn’t the first instance of an iPhone 3GS battery swelling like this, so we can only hope that they fix the problem somehow. If your bill doesn’t hurt you, your phone soon will. It is crazy.
