To say that the iPad has been a very popular tablet would be an understatement. Since 2010, Apple has continued to sell millions of units every quarter. Customers love the iPad. But the tablet has more competitors today.
Recent numbers show research that Samsung smartphone shipments have brutally kicked iPhone shipments to the curb. And you can expect the same for the iPad according to Glen Yeung, an analyst at Citi. This is due to the influx of cheap Android tablets in the market. Other reports show that demand for tablets has increased compared to PCs. In light of this, Yeung believes that iPad shipments might suffer a 7 percent year over year decline in the coming quarter.
The fifth generation iPad and possibly the Retina iPad mini, will help sales figures, but a variety of manufacturers are developing Android tablets that are far cheaper than Apple’s. It will be interesting to see what happens.
