There was a day when if you wanted to watch a movie at home you had to rely on DVDs alone, but Netflix changed all of that and now according to IHS Screen Digest, this year, more people will stream movies over the Internet than watch them on DVDs.
However, even though they will be watching more while streaming, people will spend far less money streaming movies over the Internet than watching them on DVDs. They say that the number of movies purchased or rented online this year, will grow 135% to 3.4 billion, but at the same time people will only spend $1.72 billion on digital movies, and will spend around $11.1 billion on DVDs and Blu-rays.
Remember it only costs about $15 a month to stream an unlimited number of movies via Netflix, but it costs about $15 for one DVD. Looks like we are finally a streaming society.
