When you buy tires for your car, you have to consider weather and gas consumption. Right now there are no tires that are truly all-purpose and good for all weather. That may change soon. Researchers from Leipzig University are developing an “intelligent” tire with electronic sensors that will recognize different sorts of terrain and adapt.
It will recognize not just the terrain, but also if it is wet, dry or even snow-covered or slippery. The tires’ profiles will be raised or widened accordingly while the car is moving and that is how it will handle the conditions.
While they are at it, they are working on creating less tire noise and better gas consumption. It is still in development, so we don’t have many details. However, if these tires do what they say they will do, these will be a welcome addition to your car.
