Hoverboards have had a lot of bad press lately. I mean, some of them have been prone to catching fire lately. which is why they have been banned in many places. The market is flooded with substandard products. Even so, Intel was at CES 2016, showing off it’s hoverboard that it built with Segway, one that is capable of transforming into your robot valet. This is a hoverboard that stands out.
It’s like any other self-balancing personal transportation device that you can ride. The difference is that when not needed the robot’s head retracts into the body, and comes back up when required. It’s powered by Intel’s Atom processor and features a RealSense ZR300 camera. It can navigate around the home without bumping into anything, stream live video and follow the user on command. So, if you wanted to, it can be programmed to go to the front door if it’s opened and stream back video to show who is entering the house.
At CES they attached a pair of arms and it responded: “Are those my arms?” “Awesome!”
Segway is going to release a developer kit for the robot hoverboard in the second half of 2016. It certainly is a unique take on the hoverboard and it will be interesting to see what the developers come up with.
