Instagram has an important announcement. So listen up you Instagram users. The company wants us and you to know that they will soon start to count the number of views on videos, and this should provide the marketing people with a more accurate picture on the sheer number of eyes that actually are looking at those clips.
In the past, this was not possible, since Instagram videos and photos were measured via “hearts” and comments, but now it will be views similar to Facebook.
Instagram sees views as “the most widely expected form of feedback” when it comes to videos, and mentioned that users can check out the view counts in the weeks to come using the app. Users should like the change and it shouldn’t really affect anything else. The view counts will show on videos that have been posted in the app and on ads. A view is defined as passing the 3 second mark. This might even be the next step for Instagram to help gain a slice of the marketing pie from the traditional TV platform over to mobile. Who knows. It should definitely work well for them and I think most people prefer view counts anyway.
