Pokemon Go quickly became a hit across the globe when it was launched last year. Tens of millions of people around the world play the game every day and hunt Pokemon.
However, there is one area of the map that the game will not conquer. The massive Chinese market.
This is because the country has decided to ban Pokemon Go over concerns about safety and security. With a population of more than 1.3 billion people, Niantic and Nintendo are really missing out here. The government maintains strict control in that country, so it is not a surprise.
The government will not to allow Pokemon Go to be licensed which means that it won’t be released in China. Game over. Apparently, Pokemon Go was reviewed by the country’s state censor and it was concluded that the game presents a “threat to transport and the personal safety of consumers.”
Also flagged was “geographical information security”. So Pokemon Go won’t be released in the country. Since the government has declined to give a license to Pokemon Go, this means that similar games will also not be allowed in China, even those that are being developed in the country itself. Very sad news for fans in China.
