No online service is perfect. They can all suffer outages. Apple’s iMessage service is no exception. Most downtime tends to affect a small amount of people when things go bad. However Apple’s iMessage service suffered an outage yesterday that lasted about 45 minutes and affected 30% of users.
According to Apple’s official Services, Stores, and iCloud indicator, the service was out for “some users” from around 12:30PM-1:15PM Pacific Standard Time, although there were different reports that state that these problems continued until as late as 3PM.
30% of the total users is no small number. No word yet on what caused the outage, but hopefully they have safeguards in place now.
