Hulu has announced that it has reached a deal with AMC which gives it exclusive subscription video-on-demand streaming rights for a new program called “Fear of the Walking Dead.” The name is intriguing all by itself. And it is extra interesting because the new show is a spin-off of the popular The Walking Dead series.
This deal is part of a multiyear deal that Hulu has signed with AMC. The deal also provides Hulu with new and upcoming shows from partner networks like IFC, BBC America, Sundance TV and WE tv. Not bad for Hulu at all. They have to compete with Netflix after all.
Hulu will exclusively stream Fear of the Walking Dead online before it appears anywhere else, and it will also get exclusive streaming rights to other shows from those other channels. They also just scored the rights to stream Seinfeld. It looks like Hulu is really making a lot of moves to compete with Netflix. This deal and the Seinfeld deal alone will score them a lot of new subscribers. It will be interesting to see what other shows they end up securing. These are some very big strategic moves for the company. Stay tuned for their next move.
