Last week we saw a leaked photo of the new HTC Desire 8 smartphone, and now HTC has officially teased the device, and it looks like it will be made official on the 24th of February.
The HTC Desire 8 is a mid-range smartphone that will feature a 5.5 inch display with a resolution of either 1280 x 720 pixels or 1920 x 1080 pixels. This range in resolution suggests that HTC might release multiple variants of the Desire 8, catering to different market segments and price points.
Camera Capabilities
The HTC Desire 8 will feature both front and rear-facing cameras. On the front, there will be a 5-megapixel camera designed for video calls and selfies. This front camera is expected to support various features such as beauty modes and possibly even facial recognition for added security. On the back, there will be a 13-megapixel camera. This rear camera is likely to come with advanced features such as HDR, panorama, and possibly even a night mode for better low-light photography. The inclusion of a high-resolution rear camera indicates HTC’s focus on providing a good photography experience even in a mid-range device.
Performance and Hardware
As yet, there are no details on the processor, although we would expect the handset to come with some sort of quad-core processor. Given the mid-range positioning of the HTC Desire 8, it is likely to feature a Snapdragon 400 or 600 series processor. This would provide a good balance between performance and power efficiency. The device is expected to come with between 1GB and 2GB of RAM, which should be sufficient for most everyday tasks such as browsing, social media, and light gaming. However, for more demanding applications and multitasking, the higher RAM variant would be more suitable.
The handset is also said to feature dual SIM card slots. This is a significant feature for users who need to manage two phone numbers, such as one for personal use and one for work. Dual SIM functionality is particularly popular in markets like India and China, where users often juggle multiple SIM cards to take advantage of different carrier plans.
In terms of storage, the HTC Desire 8 is expected to come with at least 16GB of internal storage, with the possibility of a microSD card slot for expandable storage. This would allow users to store more apps, photos, and videos without worrying about running out of space.
The device will run on Android, likely with HTC’s Sense UI layered on top. This custom user interface is known for its clean design and useful features, such as BlinkFeed, which aggregates news and social media updates into a single, easy-to-read feed.
We should have some more information on this new Android smartphone from HTC next week. The official announcement on the 24th of February is expected to reveal more details about the device’s specifications, pricing, and availability. Given the features and specifications that have been teased so far, the HTC Desire 8 looks like it could be a strong contender in the mid-range smartphone market.
