If you’ve ever used an app for food delivery, you have probably seen a section in the app that lets you add comments. You could use it to critique the service, give them a special request, warn them about the dog in your yard etc. Well, one woman in Florida used it for something else. She used the comments section to send a help message after being held hostage.
According to the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office press release, Cheryl Treadway was arguing with her boyfriend who was holding her as a hostage while carrying a large knife. She eventually convinced the guy to let her use the cell phone to order a pizza. And that’s when she sent the message to Pizza Hut. It’s a good thing she was using her head.
Treadway had ordered from Pizza Hut often enough for the employees to recognize it. It was an order for a hand-tossed classic pizza with pepperoni. This was her usual order, but it also contained a message to call 911. So police officers were sent to the home and luckily things ended peacefully. That was smart thinking on the woman’s part and the staff at Pizza Hut made the right call by calling the police.
