There are several online card games available right now, but Blizzard’s Hearthstone that was launched back in 2014 has a bunch of expansions.
So it is no wonder that it has been estimated that Hearthstone managed to make $400 million in the year of 2016 for Blizzard. That is big news for the company.
Around $395 million to be more exact. Second place goes to Shadowverse which trailed pretty far behind at $100 million, although this was only launched in the middle of the year,so that is a bit of a surprise to many people.
Apparently the number of US CCG players spending on in-game content is around 7.6% which is a higher rate compared to other free-to-play games, but this does make sense because cards are needed to build good decks. When it comes to other free-to-play games, in-game purchases may not be quite as necessary. Here it is.
This is good news for Blizzard and the online CCG market in general, since this will no doubt encourage other developers to try and create their own. It is a very addictive game as well, which any player can tell you about. Blizzard really nailed a great formula when they created this one. We can only wonder how much it will make in 2017. Time will tell.
