Check this out Halo fans. Microsoft has announced that 16 teams from across the globe have qualified to compete in the upcoming Halo World Championship. These players will battle in Halo 5: Guardians to win some big prizes. And bragging rights of course. The Halo World Championship pool is $2.5 million. Yes, you read that correctly.
That’s the largest prize pool in esports shooter history, so these teams have a lot of incentive to win.
The Halo World Championship pool of $2.5 million is the highest ever for a first-person shooter and the seventh largest prize pool in esports history. Now Halo wasn’t always so popular in the esports arena but over the past few years, interest has picked up. Now it seems that it is more popular than ever.
The initial amount was $1 million from Microsoft, but this number was raised as fans crowdfunded the pool through the REQ system of in-game purchases in Halo 5: Guardians. As of now Microsoft hasn’t announced the venue for the tournament, but it’s going to take place from March 18th to March 20th in Hollywood. The announcement should come soon and then we will have more info. I would say that this is a major motivation for players to give it all they have and strive for a win.
