Halo is a name we all associate with the game franchise on the Xbox platform, but that doesn’t mean that the name can’t be used by others. Now it is being used by a smartwatch. Would Master Chief wear it? I have no idea. But the name would draw him in, which is no doubt the point.
The Halo wristwatch capitalizes on a recognizable name while looking more like a traditional timepiece, as opposed to looking like most modern day smartwatches. Lonshine Technologies says that the Halo is “the world’s first smart analogue watch,” meaning that it tells the time using a mechanical quartz movement. There are some benefits to this design.
There is a transparent touchscreen display under the face that can deliver other smartwatch functions as well. That design certainly is great for prolonging the Halo’s battery life. At least the standard watch battery will continue to let the mechanical movement tick, even if you can’t sync it up to other devices. It is an interesting idea. Right now we have no word on pricing, but it will likely be in the range of $300 or so. Question is, would you be willing to pay that for this watch?
