Last month we heard rumors that Google was planning to launch a new router device called Google Wifi, and here it is. It is now official. During the company’s Pixel event, they made it official.
Google Wifi is a hockey puck-shaped device for your home. Google claims that the design will help it blend into your home too.
So what makes Google Wifi so different? Well, Google WiFi is designed to be modular, so how many you need to place around the home is up to you, but the idea is they look natural. By covering your home with Google Wifi, it will help to boost coverage, so it is kind of like a WiFi booster as well. Google also says that the device can optimize your internet service behind the scenes without anything needed from the user. Through a smartphone app you can manage your WiFi, pause access to the internet for some users on your network if you feel that they are consuming too much bandwidth, and more. It is interesting, but do most users need this kind of control? Or want it? We will see.
Google Wifi will be available for pre-order in November, and will be available for purchase in December. It is priced at $129 for a single pack, or $299 for a 3-pack. What do you think?
