According to Robert Scoble, one of his sources tells him that Google plans on renting 6000 square feet inside of every Best Buy store next year. It looks like the area will be rented for Google Glass sales. Keep in mind that the average Best Buy store is 28,000 square feet. So maybe the source meant across the chain.
We already know that buyers of Glass are given a walk-through with the device before they are fitted, so this does make sense. Earlier this year, Google hired 40 advisers to help teach Glass buyers how to use the device in fact. They would be put to good use in store. And Google doesn’t need it’s own store for this.
Aside from the developers that bought Glass at $1500 each at 2012’s Google I/O show, another 8000 won the device in Google’s #IfIHadGlass contest. Google is also allowing a limited number of current Glass wearers to select one friend who will be allowed to buy a pair. It makes perfect sense to have a storefront to get people familiar with the specs when they buy. What do you think?
