Dish has announced that it’s going to bring Google Assistant to its set-top boxes very soon. This will be the first time that its customers with a Hopper, Joey or Wally set-top box can control their TV using voice commands. And in multiple languages too, which includes English and Spanish. Dish customers should love these new features. Google Assistant will add a lot of new functionality to the set-top boxes.
Dish has been building new voice control options over the past year, which included the launch of a new Dish voice remote. With Google Assistant, users can control their video experience through Assistant on smartphones and smart speakers. If you have a broadband-connected Hopper DVR, Joey client or a Wally single-tuner HD receiver, you will be able to use voice commands to control your TV once it’s paired with the Assistant on smartphones or speakers.
Google Assistant will let you navigate, play, pause, fast-forward, rewind, and search TV content by title, actor, channel, and genre. This should come in pretty handy since you just use your voice. You can give it commands like “skip forward” and “Change channel to ESPN” too.
We don’t know exactly when this functionality is going to arrive, but it will happen “in the coming months.”
