Even though it was officially unveiled in early June, the Samsung Z isn’t available for purchase right now. The handset was supposed to be released on July 10, but obviously that never happened. Samsung says that the handset’s launch was postponed because Tizen doesn’t provide a full portfolio of applications at the moment. It goes without saying, but without a wide range of apps, a smartphone platform isn’t going to attract many users who want it.
Well, it should be along anytime now, because according to Samsung, the Z will hit shelves in some markets this quarter. Hopefully with plenty of apps available. They wouldn’t set a time unless they were sure that they could solve the app issue quickly, so all should be well and it should launch on time this time.
To help tide us over until the Samsung Z finally hits stores, the golden version, announced at the same time as the black one, was caught in the wild at the Tizen Developer Summit in Russia. It looks appropriately golden and shiny. We have no info on the price of the Samsung Z, but it will not be as expensive as the Galaxy S5 Android flagship, being a mid-end smartphone.
