Epic’s Fortnite Battle Royale is a free-to-play title that uses microtransactions to earn money for the developers. Mostly the in-game purchases are for cosmetic items, and these items may soon be giftable from one player to another.
In a recent tweet by @The1Jaren, it shows a button in the game’s menu where gamers will be able to purchase items and gift them to their friends and other players. I know that many players would love this idea. However, we don’t know what the extent of this gift giving will be. Probably all cosmetics that can be purchased in-game will be giftable, but whether or not this extends to Battle Passes we don’t know yet. We also don’t know if players will be able to gift other players V-bucks (Fortnite’s in-game currency).
It looks like gifting will be limited to five items a day, which suggests that maybe the developers don’t want the system to be abused or turned into a marketplace for third-party resellers. Epic has in the past touched on the topic of being able to gift friends items, and now it looks like that feature is going to happen for real. Since Fortnite is now cross-play supported across all platforms, gift giving makes more sense.
We will see what happens.
