Fortnite’s tie-in with Star Wars is about to go beyond a simple stormtrooper skin. Gamers have learned that Disney is premiering a scene from The Rise of Skywalker at the game’s Risky Reels drive-in theater.
This will all happen on December 14th at 2PM Eastern, with ‘doors’ opening at 1:30PM Eastern. It is more than just playing a clip, by the way. Director J.J. Abrams will also be present in some form. For those of you who don’t mind spoiling some of the movie, it might be a good break from the game’s usual battle royale brawl.
While this is a great way to market the upcoming movie, this isn’t the first bid to use Fortnite as a vehicle for live promotional events. You might remember that Marshmello played a virtual concert in the game, for instance. Exclusive movie clips are a newer thing in the game though. It’s too soon to say if in-game screenings will become a regular thing in Fortnite, but it’s hard to imagine movie studios turning down the prospect when the game has such a huge audience.
This will be pretty neat in any event. Check it out on December 14th when the event happens.
