Move over Angry Birds. There are some new birds in town. Flappy Bird is a hit! It is a frustratingly difficult game, but obviously people are loving it. It is so popular that it is reportedly generating an average of $50,000 per day in ad revenue.
That is pretty crazy when you consider that the game was “inspired” by a pipe level from Super Mario Bros, with the physics of a Mario Bros water level, and a character based on the Cheep Cheep (a flying fish) from the game. And you die whenever you touch anything! Who would have thought that would be a hit?
Being at the top of the iTunes and Google Play charts for about a month certainly helps get that revenue. The app has been downloaded about 50 million times now and has very high reviews in both app stores. Again, impressive for a game where you die as soon as you touch anything. The game was created by Vietnamese developer Dong Nguyen, who made the game in three days. $50,000 in ad revenue every day is not bad for 3 days work. Not bad at all.
