Game of Thrones fans were excited for the final season of the epic HBO series. It is one of the most popular TV shows ever thanks to brilliant writing and the way that the story has unfolded over the past seven seasons. But many fans are angry with the way season 8 has unfolded so far, and they’re now expressing that anger by Google bombing Game of Thrones writers D.B. Weiss and David Benioff.
Google bombing is the practice of making Google’s algorithms think that a search term is related to a topic that’s unrelated. This can be done for text search results and image results. Angry fans that are part of the r/Freefolk subreddit, succeeded in getting the search term “bad writers” to show a picture of Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff. This has been fixed by Google and searching for the term now will return results about similar news stories instead of the image of the writers.
Fans have some genuine concerns with the way season 8 has played out and they are making their anger known. The fact that lazy mistakes are happening, like a coffee cup popping up on set is not helping. It looks like Weiss and Benioff checked out early to go over to Star Wars.
