Most people use Facebook to connect with friends, family, bands, actors, brands they like, as well as to get the latest news. Well, over in India, Facebook could soon help to increase blood donations.
Facebook has announced a new feature in India in the form of blood donations. Users can sign up to be blood donors and connect them with people or organizations that might need their blood. According to Facebook, “In the next few weeks, we’ll also make it easier for people and organizations, such as blood banks and hospitals, to connect with blood donors on Facebook.” Now that is something useful.
“When individuals or organizations are in need of blood, they’ll be able to create a special type of post with all the information donors need to easily offer help. When a request is created, Facebook will automatically notify blood donors who may be nearby to help spread the word.” When donors get a request, they can review it and choose to respond and can then contact the requestor through a number of platforms like WhatsApp, Messenger, or call them.
This is a really good use of the technology, since it could save lives. We don’t know if this feature will find its way to other parts of the world, but for now it will be limited to India. Great news.
