As you know Facebook’s News Feed is where you keep up with all that’s happening on the social network so that you won’t miss a thing. It’s also a place where you get to see different kinds of ads and now you can add another thing to the list. Facebook has announced that it has started testing augmented reality ads in the News Feed.
Facebook News Feed AR ads will only be shown to users in the United States right now. It is currently in testing phase so improvements may be made to the ad format as they move forward. The AR ads will allow users to try on products that are advertised in an experience that will be similar to a Snapchat filter.
For instance, take sunglasses. When users see an AR ad in the News Feed, they will be given the option to tap on the product to see how it will fit on their face. The AR experience is then applied so that they can see how the glasses will look on them. A link will take users straight to the product page if they want to buy it. Seems pretty straightforward.
Other brands that will be testing Facebook’s AR ad this summer include NYX Professional Makeup, Bobbi Brown, Wayfair, Pottery Barn, and Sephora. So it seems like Facebook is serious about these AR ads.
